Martha Pelaez is a Frost Professor at the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE), Florida International University (FIU). She received her Ph.D. in 1992 in Developmental Psychology, winning the International Dissertation Award from the International Society for Infant Studies (ISIS) for her research on infant learning.  After completing a postdoctoral Fellowship at the School of Medicine, University of Miami, in 1994, she became Assistant Professor of Psychology at FIU, Associate Professor in 1998, and full Professor in 2004. She received the distinguished Frost Professor award in 2006, a formal college recognition for excellence in research and scholarly work. She has supervised students’ doctoral dissertations and master theses, and teaches courses in Educational Psychology, Child and Adolescent Development, Applied Behavior Analysis, Single Subject Designs. She also directs infant and childhood research and continues publishing her research in refereed scientific journals.

Dr. Pelaez is a fellow and past Program Chair of the American Psychological Association (APA) Division; past Program Co-Chair for the Association for Behavior Analysis International and presently serves as Trustee of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies.  Dr. Pelaez has served the Faculty Senate of FIU for many years functioning twice as Vice-Chair of the Senate and Legislative Liaison with the Florida Legislature. In 2005 and 2006, she Chaired the Advisory Council of Faculty Senates of Florida (ACFS) and served as member of numerous search and screen committees, including the search and screen committee for Chancellor of SUS and committee searching for a Dean of FIU new Medical School.  Between 2003 and 2006, she served as a member of the ACC (Articulation Coordinating Committee) of the Florida Department of Education (DOE); she Chaired the Advisory Council of Faculty Senates ACFS representing the entire faculty of the SUS of Florida, and served as voting member of the Florida Board of Governors (BOG). She is presently the Vice-Chair of the FIU Faculty Senate and serves as member of the FIU Foundation Board of Directors (2018-2020).

Dr. Pelaez has three daughters, ten grandchildren, and enjoys traveling and sailing.
