Help Our First-Generation College Students Make it to Graduation

FIU and its community partners are committed to make an outstanding college education available to talented students, regardless of their economic resources – especially to first-generation college students.

Currently, 22 percent of FIU undergraduates meet first-generation scholarship requirements, including Pell Grant eligibility, but available funding only enables 10 percent of these students to receive first-generation scholarships.

We need to close the funding gap.

To make the dream of a college education available to students, cities throughout South Florida are participating in FIU’s First-Generation Municipalities Scholarship Program by providing funding that is being matched by private donations.

Join us in building a better tomorrow for our children and community!

Who Is a First-Generation Student?

A student is first generation if neither of the student’s parents earned a college degree at the baccalaureate level or higher or, in the case of any individual who regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, if that parent did not earn a baccalaureate degree.
