World-Class School Producing Global Leaders

Whether their interest is in politics and public policy or human rights and democratization, students at the Steven J. Green School of International & Public Affairs are committed to creating a better world – and the school equips them with the knowledge, experience, and tools to do just that. Its innovative approach, integrating theory with practice and the social sciences with the humanities, is preparing global leaders and changemakers.

Interdisciplinarity is the hallmark of the Green School, with eight departments offering 38 degree programs. In addition the school has 17 interdisciplinary centers, institutes, and programs.

Yet, these programs have been dispersed across FIU’s main campus.

The addition of the Green School’s new building (GSIPA II), set to open in 2023, will make it possible to house most of the Green School’s assets under one roof, bringing together students and faculty from across disciplines to address diverse contemporary issues.

GSIPA II – Interdisciplinary by Design

  • $50M, 85,000-SF, five-story LEED building
  • Designed by famed architect Yann Weymouth
  • “West Wing” unites the Green School’s departments, centers, and institutes
  • Gallery space, courtyard, and bridges connect both of the school’s buildings
  • Spiral stair to upper floors and third-floor garden terrace
  • Two-story lobby/atrium
  • State-of-the-art event space

Green School alumni are shaping our world. We invite you to join us by supporting the people and programs that will continue to transform the world.

Excellence Elevated at the Green School

The growth of the Green School’s physical footprint parallels its ascension in the academic world. In 2021, the Green School joined an elite group of schools when it was named a full member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs – the first university in Florida to achieve the prestigious designation and one of only 40 ASPIA member schools in the world. FIU is the youngest institution among U.S. members, which includes universities such as Columbia, Duke, Johns Hopkins, and Stanford.
